South East Asia
Myanmar, South Thailand, North Thailand, Malaysia (Fall 2003)
This trip was taken in the fall of 2003. I flew into Bangkok and from there arrangments were made to fly into Yangoon. Visas were acquired at the Myanmar embassy in Bangkok. It took all day to process them and they were ready to be picked up the ip the next day. It took me eight years to make the decision to travel to Myanmar due to the nature of the government. After much assessment I decided that I would go and travel using local transport and support local establishments as much as possible.
This is the Myanmar itineray for the 28 day trip. The Thailand and Malaysia itinerary follow. Only six places were visited as the transport was very slow and also I had to wait for one week to get transport out of Inle Lake.
I will note the hotel/guest house. However, since 2003 many new guest houses have opened up.
